To Filipa and Mark, for being such an intricate part of my journey, from business to business, from strength to strength. For always being transparent, for always being there for me. I am truly blessed to have you guys in my life. What an honour to photograph the three of you, in your beautiful home. Alex, you will always be my favourite dude to photograph! May you guys be blessed in all you do!
I almost thought that this shoot wasn’t ever going to take place. Every time we tried to schedule it, something changed and we had to wait. At last we where able to photograph, during the winter, with te farm grass golden and the wind blowing in our hair. I am so glad this shoot happend exactly at the right time. It worked out perfectly and afterwards I couldn’t stop thinking about how happy and beautiful this family is! I hope these images bring you a lot of happiness and that one day you can look back at tis glorious time in your lives. Sargeant can be very happy that he found you.
The Blomerus Family
Your river is part of a delta…
This gorgeous mare, lost her mom when she was a tiny filly. She has never been taught, doesn’t have human interaction every day, but due to the fact that she was looked after by humans when she was young, she has built trust and made a connection with them. The moment the Blomerus family walked into the camp, she joined us and made the shoot super special!
Makes me think, have you ever thought of the word Delta? A delta is a finite increment. This means, it is an increase or an addition of a series, on a fixed scale (https://www.lexico.com/en/definition/increment) It is a place where many join to become something big. In life I believe that we become part of every persons delta, when we inspire, affect in a good way or help. Sometimes it is not literal, it is a form of support when the other does not even know it. It is shining a bit of light on someone or something other than yourself.
I have known the Blomerus family since the first day I met their youngest son and took photos at his nursery. Always knew there was something special about them. Met Kobus at plenty wedding ceremonies, and never connected the dots. But the day I really got to know them, was when we realised we had something in common. Something we miss and can not yet get back. “But you, O Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head” Psalm 3:3
In my career I have realised, that many of my clients have become friends, they have formed part of my delta and I hopefully of theirs. We are not meant to walk this world alone, we are not meant to cry or laugh alone! We are meant to share, we are part of a Delta.
Thank you for sharing some of your light with me numerous times!!
I love large families! It was so incredible to spend time with this great family, from all over the world, on our farm. The wind was a great challenge, but in the end we really enjoyed this shoot.
I have known this little family for quite some time and had the privilege to do a few family sessions and corporate work for them. Seeing these two gorgeous girls growing up through each session, becoming more like their parents. They have pretty awesome parents, devoted, passionate people that juggle life, work and fitness like jesters. Marina is a distant cousin of mine, and she has always been one of the women that inspire me, she’s a great role model, but the best thing about her is what she makes you feel like when she speaks to you. Div is a great businessman, athlete and father. Truly the Nel family is close to perfect, and definitely the kind of people I want to spend more, and more, and more time with. I truly enjoyed this session, and my Great Dane did do a few photo bombs so please excuse.
It was so great to see the Pretorius family again after a few years since we did their previous family photos. I enjoyed their kids now being teenagers, and loved this session because it felt like I was visiting my own friends or family. We made coffee and chatted a bit before the photos which was great for all of us to first socialise and calm the nerves. And then we got pretty stunning photos afterwards. I only left after sunset, we talked so much. I really hope for more clients to build a relationship with, not just do a quick shoot and off you go! From now on I am implementing a mini coffee social before each shoot.
Golden Sunset on the Beach
If I ever wanted a perfect example of a family shoot to show future families, this would be it. Yes it was on a tropical island, yes it was a beautiful family, but.. there are a few distinct things Marisa did right. First of all: We had time. I love shooting in the golden hour which is the last hour before sunset. Due to great planning from her side, we arrived exactly at the the right time, we where not rushed for time, there was more than enough light and everyone could literally explore, play and have their photos taken in a natural manner. Secondly, location. The Baard family chose a location that they where familiar with, one they knew weren’t going to be crowded, one with a beautiful landscape as a backdrop, and one they have had numerous lovely moments at before. Making it the perfect playground for a photo shoot. Thirdly, wardrobe. It is a good idea to color coordinate but not in such a manner that you become too matchy. Marisa picked a range of blues, greys and neutrals, colours that suit their skin tone, that they wear daily and that worked well with the location. They also selected items that each individual felt comfortable with, they live in shorts, so why not do a shoot in them. The last very important topic I want to cover is attitude, they had such a cool, laid back attitude making everyone comfortable and enjoying themselves whilst I could click away and have my own fun. There you have it, a perfect recipe to a very successful shoot.
Thank you guys, for making me part of this very memorable experience and one of my favourite family shoots ever! I hope to visit Mauritius again sometime and to be able to take more such stunning photos in the future.
